These photos can capture precious memories and remind us of fun trips away. But, what about a selfie with a wild animal? Sadly, what can be a magical moment for some, can mean a life of misery for the animals. This summer, please protect wild animals and help stop ‘Selfish Selfies’!

What is a Selfish Selfie? |
People can pay to have their photo taken with captive wild animals, often while on holiday as a souvenir.
Photo prop animals can include parrots, lizards, monkeys, dolphins, lion cubs and even elephants, and can be fed, held or petted. |

What’s the problem with Selfish Selfies? |
The chance to get close to a wild animal can sound exciting, and posing for a quick photo might seem harmless. But, imagine if you were the animal…

These animals are used as photo props day in, day out. They can be chained to one spot or passed around from stranger to stranger. Young animals can be separated from their mothers. This can all be very distressing, which is why Born Free needs your help to bring Selfish Selfies to an end. |
What can YOU do?
- Please don’t take photos with any captive wild animal – stick to selfies with friends and family.
- Tell others not to take selfies with captive wild animals.
- Don’t like or share any photos of other people posing with captive wild animals.
- If you see an animal being used as a photo prop, please ask an adult to help you report this to Born Free via Raise The Red Flag.
