YOUR KING QUESTIONS ANSWERED
IN THE LAST OF OUR BLOGS ON KING’S JOURNEY TO SOUTH AFRICA, BORN FREE’S BETH BROOKS REVEALS SOME OF THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WE HAVE RECEIVED
It’s great to see King so happy and settled at his new home at our big cat sanctuary in South Africa, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our amazing supporters.
We have really enjoyed receiving, and replying to, the questions and comments we have received throughout our appeal for King. Here, we answer some of the most frequently asked questions:
Will King be released into the wild?
Sadly, no. Because King would be unable to fend for himself in the wild, he will be given expert lifetime care in a spacious, safe and natural environment.
Will King be introduced to a female and have children?
Born Free has introduced big cats to each other in the past. We currently have no immediate plans to do this with King, but hope to do so in due course. All the big cats in our care are given contraceptives because we do not wish to increase the captive animal population and want to ensure enough space at our centres for future rescues of wild animals in need.
Will King be safe?
Yes, King will be free from harm in a spacious, safe and natural environment.
Will King be shot by trophy hunters?
No. Shamwari Private Game Reserve does not allow hunting on its land. Shamwari is a haven for wild animals. It has played a key role in reintroducing wildlife back to the Eastern Cape and has some of the most advanced anti-poaching units in South Africa.
Why does Born Free need funds for King now he is at your big cat rescue centre?
King will be given lifetime care at our big cat rescue centre. Future donations for King will fund his food, health checks and veterinary care, as well as enclosure upkeep and maintenance.
Once again, thank you so much to every single one of our amazing supporters for your generosity in making King’s move to Africa possible. You have made a real difference to a tiny cub with a mighty name.
