MONKEY FOUND DEAD ON LONDON STREET

The body of a primate, thought to be a black-tufted marmoset, was found dead on a north London street last Friday night by a member of the public. The animal had suffered severe injuries and was missing part of its face.

“While details are lacking, this shocking incident is likely to be a result of the primate pet trade in the UK, which remains rife and unregulated” said Dr Chris Draper, Head of Welfare & Captivity at Born Free.

For many years, Born Free has been calling for a ban on the keeping of primates as pets, and we will continue to push for this in 2019.
