CHILDREN WATCH IN HORROR AS LION TAMER IS KILLED BY A CIRCUS LION IN EGYPT

1 December 2016

Horrifying footage has emerged of a male lion attacking a trainer at a live circus event in Egypt. It is reported that the lion attacked the trainer and bit his neck during a performance in Alexandria.

A spokesperson for the Born Free Foundation said:

“It goes without saying that this incident is tragic and something that young children should never have to witness. We are convinced that, while direct contact between dangerous wild animals and humans continues in captivity, incidents such as these are inevitable. Big cats are wild, unpredictable animals who can – and do – inflict fatal injuries on people. It is time that shows such as these are ended, for the sake of animals and people”.

The shocking video comes a year after another female lion tamer in Egypt was reportedly mauled by one of her animals; amazingly, the woman survived the incident and escaped with a fractured pelvis.

Worryingly, it is still legal to use wild animals in travelling circuses across the UK and the Born Free Foundation is working with partner organisations to ensure that a ban on this practice is implemented as soon as possible.
