BORN FREE’S CONSERVATION CONSULTANT RECEIVES MBE

31 March 2017

Warm congratulations to our long-term colleague Dr Cheryl Mvula  for receiving an MBE for her dedication to community development and conservation in Africa. Cheryl was presented with the honour by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace on Friday 24th March. A responsible travel expert, Cheryl coordinates the life-changing GRI-Zambia Primate Project with Cosmas Mumba, supported by Born Free since 2004. The project rescues sick, injured, orphaned and confiscated vervet monkeys and baboons from the illegal ‘bushmeat’ and pet trades. After careful rehabilitation the primates are prepared for life back in the wild in socialised troops, where they are carefully monitored. Our Conservation Consultant Cheryl also helps us tackle trophy hunting and captive animal suffering in Zambia, and organise a new GRI-ZPP education programme training school teachers.
