At Born Free, we work tirelessly to ensure that all wild animals, whether living in captivity or in the wild, are treated with compassion and respect. We champion all wild animals and that’s why our adoption scheme is so varied.

We’ve got a portfolio of 20 wild animals, ranging from lions, tigers and bears, to the more unusual offering of pangolins, Ethiopian wolves, and the rarest subspecies of giraffe in the world – The West African Giraffe Family.

Pangi the pangolin was a baby when she was rescued, dehydrated and underweight. Thanks to the expert care of Sangha Lodge, in West Africa’s Central African Republic, she has recovered. Pangi’s adopters help fund her care, as well as looking after other pangolins in need.

The Ethiopian Wolf Family live in small packs high in the Bale Mountains of Ethiopia. There are thought to be just 500 living in the wild and they are at risk from habitat loss and disease. Funding for the Ethiopian Wolf Conservation Programme (EWCP) through Born Free’s adoption scheme has helped monitor and protect these endangered species since 1995. This funding helped EWCP launch a programme to vaccinate Ethiopian wolves against rabies earlier this year.

The Giraffe Family are a real conservation success story. Threats including habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict meant that in 1995 there were just 49 individuals left. But with the help of funding through Born Free’s adoption scheme, there are now more than 600 West African giraffe living in Niger.

The success of The Giraffe Family shows that, thanks to our wonderful supporters, Born Free’s adoptions make a real difference – helping to protect and preserve real animals in the wild, or to care for rescued captive wild animals. Over the years, Born Free’s adoptions have helped save and care for hundreds of wild animals around the world.
